September Topic: "The Changing Nature of Work: What's Driving What's Happening"

This presentation will identify and discuss many of the social, demographic and technological trends that are, in turn, driving workplace trends; and the implications all this has for workplace design. We’ll talk about how work is changing and how what workers want is changing; and how designers and managers of work environments can help clients to determine what aspects are most relevant and applicable to them (instead of falling prey to every fad that comes along).

September Topic: "Work is Not a Place"

Work is not always location-dependent. Aside from addressing physical place, work isn't always dependent on timeframe. Technology leads clients and coworkers expecting immediate responses. Work should be about production and accomplishment. Workers should be free to complete work by a prescribed timeframe, not during a timeframe. We need to determine how to use productivity tools and technologies to make working safer and more effective outside of the place we call work. How can we design to support a step away from the desk (tablet) environment? It’s about challenging what are considered norms to take our businesses into the future.
